[Fixed] This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site…
The Problem:
You are unable to open a Microsoft Access database hosted on another computer within your local network. Usually the following error shows:
This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft access will not open this file due to potential security problems.
To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network location.
In my case this error started because the machine that hosted the access database was switched to Vista
The Solution:
To solve the problem I had to do some research. After performing this fix on 4 other machines I feel pretty comfortable that this fix will work for you. If not leave a comment.
Steps:
- Open Internet Explorer and click tools/internet options.
- Click the ‘Security’ tab and select ‘Local Intranet’ in the ‘Select a zone…’ area.
- Click the ’sites’ button below that section.
- Un-check ‘Automatically detect intranet network’. Make sure other choices are checked.
- Click ‘Advanced’
- In the ‘Add this website to the zone:’ box, type in the following: “file://ACCESS_MACHINE_HERE” (where the machine that hosts the access db needs to be after the “//”) then click ‘add’.
So, there you have it. This may not be as much as a Vista issue as it is a Internet Explorer 7 issue. That I don’t know for sure. What I do know is that this worked for 4 machines (3 Vista and 1 XP). Let me know your results in the comments.

Nope. Didn’t work for me. The file is on a shared drive. Does that make a difference? I did not start having this problem until I upgraded to IE8. My coworkers who still have IE6 are not having an issue.
